Microsoft Game Content Usage Rules
Aug
OK, so I promised that I was going to write a piece this week on the new Microsoft Game Content Usage Rules for using its engines to make Machinima.
I’m still working on it. However:
I’ve just discovered that the wording of the Halo EULAs, in particular, is very different to what I thought it was. I’ve had to ask Fred von Lohmann of the EFF to take a look at those and see what the legal ramifications are.
It looks like I might have a chance to chat to the architects of the Rules next week. That’s obviously Very Good News, and I’m going to hold off on the column until they’ve had a chance to give me their side of the story.
Sorry for the delays - I’ll be commenting on and hopefully clarifying this (huge) development for Machinima soon!

Sweet! The meeting with The Architect(s) is a very exciting prospect.
Not if the end result is a choice that isn’t a choice.
Bilius - what do you mean?
