Update on the WoWGlider situation

There are a number of learned legal opinions coming in on the WoWGlider situation:

It’s 1am here, so I’m going to hold off on analysis from a Machinima perspective until tomorrow. However, comments welcomed.

    I don’t play WOW but I read through your links Hugh as this seems to have implications beyond gaming. I hope some rationale is introduced if this does get sent to a higher USA court. I notice that Glider users who posted cited avoiding the boring, repetitious parts of gameplay as one reason for using the addon (especially if they were weekend / evening players). I wonder why these parts of the game exist, if their only function is to supply a brake to the WOW economy? Surely a more imaginative solution could be devised devised which focuses more on the aspects that players seem to enjoy more? There would then be less incentive to circumvent parts of the game.
