Doctor Horrible - the follow-up
Aug
Following my article on Doctor Horrible and what it means for Machinima creators…
It looks like Joss Whedon and company have changed their mind about pulling it from the Web. The entire thing’s now available for free viewing again.
Which begs the question - why? What changed? Did the viewing figures suck? Did the iTunes sales suck? I can’t imagine it was the plan all along - people who bought it from iTunes will be feeling pretty rubbish right now. Have Joss and co gotten some kind of offer, or are they pinning their hopes on the DVD? Does this mean that the “yank it from the Web” approach doesn’t work?
Thoughts?

I’m just as stumped as you are, Hugh. Something changed, obviously. Perhaps some kind of back-room negotiations with ITunes turned sour and they (Joss and co) are sticking it to them.
I’d sure like to know the answers. At least my friends can see it for free now.
They’ve been having some issues with iTunes—the first part is only available inside the States, and the second part should be up but (last I checked) wasn’t. The DVD isn’t ready yet. I suspect that there’s a desired level of hype and consumer interest which isn’t being maintained by t-shirt sales alone.
Perhaps they’re just being kind to those of us who don’t happen to live in Joss’ back yard.
Ah, yeah, an iTunes screwup would explain it. Man, were I Joss I’d not be happy about that, at all.
ah, wow… and i just paid for it. yea, let free-dom reign!
