Looks like the 3D camera-based technologies are starting to hit. Mgestyk are showing off their new 3D gesture recognition system, which apparently recognises hand movements and gestures and translates them into computer control.
That’s nice, of course, but what’s really interesting is that this technology could presumably also be used to recognise gestures as… gestures. Cheap home mocap, here we come.
One to watch. Apparently the system will be “the price of a high-end webcam”.

How do you type?
I’m not sure that you can - although I guess you could bind commonly-used phrases to gestures. Let’s face it, you could probably get through World of Warcraft with “u sheep now”, “rdy?”, “n00b!” and “blizz totaly nerfed {classname} in t3h latest patch”
I’d think that you could probably bind sign language to letters, possibly even words if the program can handle the complexity. Too bad it’s only for windows, this looks like it could be a great thing if it were marketed to the more creatively minded Mac & Linux users rather than the windows majority who will go “Wow!” for a little bit and then forget it ever existed when the next eye catching gadget comes along.
