Yeah, my experience tells me that’s the kind of effort you need to put into marketing to be really successful right now. I only spent a couple of days launching Kamikaze Cookery, for example - should have spent more!
It doesn’t say whether Felicia and Kim did the full time marketing after the first episode was complete, I’m assuming so? “We were fighting against the stereotype of online gamers as pickly-faced teenagers living in their basements,” She could have easily added the word ‘male’ to that sentence.
Well, congrats are in order for their success. And we can all learn a lot from this. Knowing one’s way around Hollywood and production is no doubt also helpful. Felicia Day’s resume over on IMDb.com is impressive.
One thing I’d be interested to know is how they got around the publisher’s rules especially the ‘The Fundamental Rule’: “First and foremost, Blizzard Entertainment requires that the use of World of Warcraft and other Blizzard products must be limited to non-commercial purposes” listed here - http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/community/machinima/letter.html - not to mention the stipulation from Blizzard that “Your Production cannot be sold”.
ah, now i see how they did it. no WoW footage. and the only WoW representation i have seen so far is some cartoons. CLEVER.
WoW is never actually mentioned at all, Felicia has said she likes to keep their game unnamed so that people who play other MMOs can relate to it.
