Has anyone ever received film festival permission from Blizzard?

A quick question for the assembled masses - has anyone ever corresponded with Blizzard via their machinima@blizzard address, and if so, what was their response? In particular, has anyone received permission to embark on commercial activity with WoW, or to enter or show Machinima made with WoW at a film festival?

We’re about to do a roundup of Machinima licensing in 2009, and I’d be really interested to know how responsive they were.

It’s my next step once I’m back from holiday (which I’m currently on).

If you know any of that group well, please do ping them in the meanwhile - I’d love to know if they’ve had communications.

Eerily quiet re: Blizzard. Have you guys inquired privately with some of the people who are known to be making festival-quality product? i.e. Myndflame, Olibith, Baron, Surgee, Dopefish, Jun, etc… if some of these folks haven’t attempted film festival submission, they should certainly be encouraged to do so in the future.

I don’t know about Blizzard, but I do know that in 2003, Ubisoft organised a movie competition as the distributor for the flight sim IL2 which was developed by the game company 1C Maddox.

In 2008, we organised another competition ourselves and 1C Maddox agreed to award a prize for the winner. We never tried to contact Ubisoft but took the stance that as they hosted a forum on their community forums dedicated to movie making and they had previously organised a competition then by implication had no objections.
